Can Americans get any lazier?

July 25th, 2006

This news item is unbelievable but not really surprising if you stop to think about how lazy Americans have become these days.  Disabled folks now have to compete with lazy asses for motorized scooters at Wal-Mart, etc.  Able-bodied asshats are using the scooters just because they are too lazy and/or fat to walk.

On a recent afternoon at Walt Disney World, Dennis Robles was cruising around on an electric “mobility scooter” that the park usually rents out to people with disabilities. Mr. Robles doesn’t have a problem walking — he says he was simply saving up energy for late-night dancing.

“I’m pretty healthy,” says the 37-year-old truck driver from Brooklyn, N.Y. “Just lazy, I guess.”

Chicago

July 12th, 2006

July 4th weekend was a great trip to Chicago and camping in Wisconsin.  We hot a great deal at the Palmer House Hilton via Hotwire.  In addition to a great location two blocks from Millenium and Grant Parks, the hotel also had the Best Bed Ever.  So good it was tempting spend the whole trip in bed instead of enjoying one of the best cities in the country.

However, we did make it out for some cool stuff like the Taste of Chicago, Museum of Science and Industry, and some great Irish bars.  And then a few hours biking the awesome Lakefront Trail.  Many people talk about Chicago being a bike-friendly city, and it’s definitely true.  Bike racks are located all over the city with many on a single block.  People of from all walks of life cycle everywhere, surprisingly with few helmets in site.

The coffee bar at Union Station has Black and White Cookies, the only place I’ve found them in KC since Bagel & Bagel sold out to Einstein Bros.
