Room without a view

For the last couple years I was lucky enough to have a cubicle with a view - not just a window but a wall of five-foot windows on the fifth floor. In the winter when the trees where bare, we had a sliver of a view of the tops of the downtown skyline. But now the building going up across the street has reached five stories and my view of the skyline is gone. Now I am left with the Channel 4 tower and the BMA Building (now One Park Place), both on Signal Hill. And I almost forgot, a view of lovely “downtown” KCK. Oh well, could be much worse.

Jay Mohr - Gasping for Airtime

Jay Mohr spent two years on Saturday Night Live and tells a great story of what it’s like you achieve your dream job and turns out to be quite bittersweet. That, and the obligatory yet interesting behind the scenes SNL stories.

…Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler walked past our table with his wife. All week I had thought he looked like Joan Rivers. During the rehearsals, he would constantly primp himself. Tyler carried a mirror in the holster on the side of his painter’s pants. The mirror wasn’t a compact; it was about eight inches in diameter. He looked in that mirror more than someone who lived in a house of mirrors.

Tomorrow’s Republican leaders

This dude seems to be well on his way to becoming a leader in the Republican Party. He is quite the up and comer.

The young Nevada man designated to chair the upcoming 2005 Young Republican National Convention in Las Vegas has been accused of embezzling registration fees from around the country to pay off bar tabs, personal loans and credit card debts.

Nevada’s national committeeman for Young Republicans filed a criminal complaint Monday with the Reno Police Department alleging Nathan Taylor received more than $25,000 in registration fees and donations through his corporation, YRNC 2005, and spent almost all of it in the past year for personal use.

Full story.

KC Hoes For Dummies

This one is inspired by a conversation with the mighty M.Toast. I thought I would do something nice for the dudes living out in the land of biege fortresses. Guys who might be curious about their options for purchasing carnal pleasure over here in the big city, yet intimidated by the number of ho strolls to choose from.

First of all, let’s start with the grand-daddy of KC ho strolls, Independence Avenue (map). Located just east of Downtown, it’s convenient for a long lunch or quick visit on the way home from work. It’s also a very short trip from North BFE, being just across the river. The Avenue is the traditional favorite and still the most accessible for the beige folks. Here you will find hos of all colors and creeds, so take your pick.

Just south of the Avenue is the mythical East Side. These two words that strike fear into the hearts of South BFE denizens who think the Missouri side is one giant ghetto. But this is the place to go if you want to rent some brown sugar for the evening. 31st and Prospect (map) is the epicenter for crack hoes.

But what if you want to find something a little closer to home? Not to fear, the Kansas side has plenty of hoes. Just head north to KCK for some Wyco action. Quindaro (map) is where the action is on the Kansas side. And if you like your taco spicy, check out Kansas Ave. for the Latina scene (map).

Besides the STD and rap sheet, the KCPD now offers a new benefit for cruising the ho stroll - reality TV. You could be a star on John TV, with your mug shot and home address on cable access.

Pasties, Porn, and Posers

Friday night started off at Davey’s Uptown for the premier of a one-woman burlesque show, Sugar Puppy and the Lovely Dumplings. It was equal parts burlesque, performance art, and adult comedy. She was hilarious, although it was a little odd for us to watch what appeared to be her teenage brother watching his sister in pasties.

After a stop at the adjacent Ray’s Video, it was off to the Raytwown/KC border for an ethnographical expedition at Funkytown. As usual, it was a feast for the eyes and ears. Most clubgoers didn’t seem too excited about Funkytown’s usual 80s music, but Nellie succeeded in getting the white folk onto the dance floor. Sadly, winter time tends to discourage the displays of back fat and ass cleavage.

OK, maybe SpongeBob really is gay

Spongebob gay?At first I thought the accusations of SpongeBob being a gay influence on children were just more bizarre claims from the Repugnant wingnuts. But then I saw the movie. I won’t spoil the plot for you, but I can say that there are definitely some homoerotic undertones, and overtones (not that there’s anything wrong with that…). I’ll just give you two words. Patrick. Fishnets.

And then there was the gratuitous Hasselhoff. Shudder. That freak did a thing with his body that was absolutely horrific, in a children’s movie no less!

Puppy blog

This one isn’t my puppy, but rather Oliver. He’s probably one of the most famously blogged dogs around. The captions are witty and he gets some great comments.

Oh, heads up for the haters out there, the dog is (gasp) French…

And here is some is some new Ginger goodness:
