Weird missing attachments in Mail.app
November 7th, 2009Update: I never figured out what the problem was, so I ultimately copied the mail.app file from a friend (thanks, Dave!) and that solved the problem.
I recently opened up Mail.app for the first time since upgrading to Snow Leopard, and discovered a really weird problem… All attachments are rendered with Safari’s “missing plugin” icon. I cannot click on the icon nor drag it to the desktop. The only way I can access attachments is via the “Save” and “Quick Look” buttons. The problem happens on received messages as well as message composition windows.

I have tried all of the usual suspects with no luck… rebuilding mailboxes, deleting the mail folder and preference files and starting over, rebooting, etc. I also added a second, non-Gmail IMAP account. Plus, attachments are fine in other mail clients. This seems to be a problem specific to Mail.app.
Anyone else seen this before? FYI, I’m running 10.6.1 with all updates.
