DC Bound

February 17th, 2008

Next month I’m heading out to Washington for the National Bike Summit to agitate for us folks on two wheels. So, I’d be much obliged for your recommendations on food, drink, and general diversions.  I’ve done the big sites like museums and such, including a pilgrimage to the Magic of Myth – so this time I’m looking for stuff off the beaten path.  I’m staying in the Shaw neighborhood near U Street and Howard University.

Hopefully I’ll be able to scout out venues to return to in January 2009 for the Barack and/or Hillary inauguration.

Check out Cafe Saint-Ex near 14th and T. It’s near U and had a decent vibe the last time I was in DC.

DC has the best Ethiopian food. The best place has probably changed since the last time I was there, so I would ask locals for specific recommends, but definitely go for some Ethiopian.

I also highly recommend Zaytinya. It’s Greek, Lebanese, Turkish food, served tapas style so you can sample a lot of things. Delicious!
