Weekend

Michelle and I achieved something monumental – going out two nights in a row. Somehow that has become a rare thing since getting married. Friday night we joined Mark and his wife Nicole for dinner at Cafe al Dente, downtown in the River Market neighborhood. I think my scallops were the best scallops I ever had. It’s a great family-owned place. Mark and Nicole know the owners, so we got to check out some of the pictures of their recent trip to France.

Saturday we joined Sharon at Grinders’ new convert venue, Crossroads KC to see Truckstop Honeymoon and The Wilders. It was a great show in a great outdoor venue. They have lined up an impressive list of acts for their first year.

Later that night I took part in my first bachelor party on bike, joining Matt, his friend the groom, and Jeff. It was mostly a cruise of Midtown bars. We contemplated biking to a strip club, but the mechanics of getting a lap dance while wearing spandex diverted us into just drinking more beer. After closing the night at the Newsroom (where we ran into Nick), I’m amazed at how sketchy Broadway has become. What the heck happened? Finally we capped off the night at Chubby’s with a Larry Johnson spotting.

   lap dances wearing spandex rocks! Back when I was your age I used to hit all the
   best strip clubs wearing spandex and you know what? I never had to tip! As
   a matter of fact they wouldn’t let me pay for drinks either and always walked
   me to the door. Or into the parking lot, which ever was closest. Shit, now that
   I think about it, maybe wearing yellow spandex in strip clubs wasn’t the best idea.
   Do you think they’ve forgotton about me by now?
