Honky Tonk Badonkadonk

October 8th, 2005

OK people it’s official. 2005 is the Year of The Country-Hip Hop Mashup. First there was the Tim McGraw and Nelly duet. Now there is Trace Adkins’ Honky Tonk Badonkadonk. Whoa. What’s next, a Lil’ Kim/Merle Haggard duet? Or perhaps 50 Cent and Dolly Parton?

Hear it for yourself…

Poor ole boy, it ain’t his fault
It’s so hard not to stare
At that honky tonk badonkadonk
Keepin’ perfect rhythm
Make ya wanna swing along
Got it goin’ on
Like Donkey Kong
And whoo-wee
Shut my mouth, slap your grandma
There outta be a law
Get the Sheriff on the phone
Lord have mercy, how’s she even get them britches on
That honky tonk badonkadonk

By the way, it’s times like these that I kinda heart CMT, because they can follow up a throw-away song like this with Ray Scott’s My Kind of Music, about a guy that dumps his date because she can’t name a single Johnny Cash song.

go with the theme at all.

  16. Jeff says:

I agree with the blog entry. Anyone remember Ghostbusters? Crossing the Country and Hip-Hop genres is like crossing the streams. Really bad things happen when you cross the streams…. Trace.. bro.. friend.. pal.. sing about country things.. sing about how great America is.. pickup trucks.. dogs.. hunting.. but leave the hip-hop terminology out of it.

  17. Jeff says:

Oh, and by the way, Nintendo called. They’re filing suit for the defamation of Donkey Kong’s good name.

  18. Jeff says:

Oh, by the way, Nintendo called. They’re filing suit against Trace for using smearing Donkey Kong’s good name.

  19. Charger says:

Perhaps if Nintendo agreed to slap Trace Adkins’ grandma, it could be settled out of court. Does this song qualify as a song about loving, living, good hearted women, family, or God? I really haven’t heard reference to any of those in it (except slap your grandma, but that’s YOUR grandma, not is own).

  20. GOD BLESS YOU TRACE!!! I have been a country music fan since I was a kid and I used to DJ
for a honky tonk bar. I listen to all the country music. This song ROCKS!!! I recently
brought this song into a strip joint and got the dancer to dance to this. She got more
money from that one song then all the other songs combined. SOOOO…. Bring it on!!!
HERE SHE COMES!!! LEFT, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT LEFT!!! Thats it right there boys. Thats
why we do what we do. It ain’t for the money, it ain’t for the glory, it ain’t for the
free whiskey. Its for the BADONKADONK!!! – JIBPHOTOGRAPHY

  21. Blair says:

You have done the best song i think it is. My bro likes your video for it. Dont ask me why. LOL
Well I dont know what else to say But this is the best song.

  22. Dewayne says:

Coming from a 60 year male..this is one good video…way to go Trace…!

  23. Tara says:

this is a AWESOME song i don’t see how anyone can say anything about
ths when rap and r&b play shit all the time.

  24. taylor says:

Omg i was just listenin to that song..it is awesome!! u need to leave trace alone cause its not like 50 cent and nelly dont sing
about asses and all that…dont get me wrong i love nelly hes hawt but trace done great singin that song…its somethin u can dance
    well to….love ya,Taylor W.

  25. Tara says:

I like the song.. Trace has had a lot of great songs and this is just another one…
And as to JEFF up there.. I am sure that after hearing you say what you did, Trace
wouldn’t think of you as Bro, friend or pal.. And as for this song having “hip-hop terminology”…
Since when did you ever hear honky tonk badonkadonk sung in a hip-hop artist’s music.. I don’t recall
to many that have done that in if the have… Isn’t that “crossing the streams”? If its bad for Trace
isn’t it bad for them?.. Whatever thought the music industries were all trying to get along out there.
Song is great and will do great…

  26. Deb says:

I love this song, it’s a fun and energetic song! Make’s you want to get up and shake that Honky Tonk Badonkadonk

  27. Cindy from Pittsburgh says:

You need to give Trace a break and stop all this stupid crap! This is America, if you don’t like it turn the station!!!!! I do everytime they put on a Kenny, Tim, Faith or Toby song!!!!!!!!!

  28. brie says:

The song when I first heard it, seemed fun, cute, playful. I could picture in my mind a country dance hall, pretty girls in tight jeans, getting a glance from a country boy, joining her on the floor, and so forth. Has humor, nice beat, etc.

I actually looked for the video thinking would be really cute. btw I enjoy country music, am not that familiar with trace adkins as an artist. What I found was a really crude rapper booty in your face/pimp style video. Degrading to women and men. Thought less of Adkins when I was neutral before…thought MUCH MUCH less of the song.

What a waste of time, talent and film.

  29. Sue says:

I just love this song. In fact my 22 month old daughter dances to it
all the time. Trace Adkins was two big fans here in Winton, Calif.

  30. Big D says:

Let’s face it, all musical genre are changing . . . including country.
The stuff they call Rock these days is just pittiful, but I digress.

Personally, I think the song is cute and my wife absolutely loves
it, as do most women I know (what was that about it being degrading to women?)
The only thing negative I can say is the video is more nightclub
than honky tonk, and I didn’t see too many real “badonkadonks” by definition.
But then again, it’s just fun entertainment, not a documentary that
    claims to be socialogically accurate.

While the song doesn’t follow the usual country themes, I think
it still expresses something that’s in the heart of every re-blooded
country boy . . . a true appreciation for country girl in tight blue jeans
    with a fine rear-end . . . I mean Badonkadonk!

I also like his “Hot Mama”. Hats off to Trace. Now about those Big and Rich characters . . .

  31. Debbi Merritt says:

I am a Trace Adkins fan and do belong to his fan club. Honky Tonk is
not hip hop!. Big and Rich is hip hop. I do not listen or watch
big and rich, they are a disgrace to country music. Do you know they
    received CMA nominations? Unreal.
Trace Adkins song and video ARLINGTON should have been song of the
year and video of the year.
Honky tonk is a fun song, great to dance to. and yes Trace can dance.
If you get the chance see Trace in concert….and also buy
Songs about me-sensual song is BABY I’M HOME.
Trace is 6 ft 6 and all man, all the way around, I know I had a meet&greet

  32. Phillip says:

This is one great song, as far as Nintendo suing they should
appreciate someone bringing interest to a old game.

  33. Phillip says:

Lord have mercy, how’s she even get them britches on
    That honky tonk badonkadonk

  34. JoNnY bOy says:

They stole fried chicken from us now we used an AMERICAN word and they’re mad cause we actually have people listen to our songs and not force them too. Well this is America and we do what we want when we want.

  35. JoNnY bOy says:

DAMN have you seen the music video with them hott ass girls, well they should start putting those kind of videos on MTV and not the crap that they have on now.

  36. Xanthophyll J. Carotene says:

Oh this song is a total train wreck. Sucks in so many ways.

  37. Flamingo Massacre says:

“I am a Trace Adkins fan and do belong to his fan club. Honky Tonk is
not hip hop!. Big and Rich is hip hop. I do not listen or watch
big and rich, they are a disgrace to country music. Do you know they
    received CMA nominations? Unreal.”

What are any of you even talking about? Big and Rich is more rock than anything. Have you even ever HEARD hiphop? It sounds nothing like that. And nobody cares about some lowly fan that’s too pathetic to care about their own life instead of someone else’s. Anyways, Trace’s new video is a remix of the actual song, in case you lot didn’t know. The origional song is pure country, plain and simple. It’s the remix that’s not really country. And no, it’s NOT hiphop! It’s a sort of techno remix. Get over the whole hiphop thing, because you all have no idea what you’re talking about.

  38. Flamingo Massacre says:

Oh, also, I’ve met Trace before. He was at a dinky little country music festival in WI that I went to. It wasn’t just a ‘hello, goodbye’ type of thing either. We actually chatted. A couple other girls were with me too but they freaked out and didn’t say anything.

  39. Hallomar says:

I love Trace and Honkytonk Badonkadonk, the cd version. This version they used for the video? What was he thinking? It isn’t even the same song after they get done with it. I hate the video version.

  40. the good ag says:

Holy crap. First, the song is great. Second, I love to video ’cause it proves that white chicks can shake their asses too!
And as for Trace being all hip hop or techno or the video not being typically country or whatever, he’s just having fun.
He’s not trying to be a rap or techno star, just having a good time. What, you’ve never done something retarded just for fun??
    Wa hoo for the badonkadonk!

  41. fallcrop says:

It’s entertainment people. If it doesn’t entertain you…turn it off. Ah, but that’s just not good
enough for people who think their opinions really count for something. Well it doesn’t. Shut up
and go listen to some of your rap crap. Oh, Jeff and rezin..in my humble opinion..how’s it feel to
    be that ignorant?
Keep up the good work Trace! Good beat, fun lyrics, and very entertaining.

  42. Justin says:

This song absolutely freaking sucks! No depth to the song at all!
Johnny Cash probably would have punched trace adkins in the face if he would
have stayed alive long enough to hear this crap! Big & Rich are in the
same boat too! Come on people…learn to appreciate better music!

  43. Chris says:

I cant believe anyone acutally tolerates this song. This by definition is not music. It is exploitaion of culture. Trace Adkins is taking a phrase that he THINKS is a popular phrase in in youth culture. He couldnt be more wrong. Badonkadonk is possibly the stupidest word i have heard in my entire life. Please people stop supporting absolute CRAP and listen to something with substance for crying out loud. The person before me referred to Johnny Cash. THANK GOD he never had to hear this junk!!!

  44. Gem says:

i usually dont listen to country ever!! it wood kill mi rep i luve in nyc nd iif mi crew
ever saw this theyd kill me..mi friend hurd it one day nd now i cant drop it!! honky tonk
badonkadonk its kinda catchy!! im empressed!! go trace!!

  45. Josh says:

The video version of the song is corny (but how can’t you like the asses in that video?)

The CD/radio version of the song is very catchy but its one of those songs your either going to absolutely love or hate…..Very uptempo.

    I like it ALOT.

And trashing this song cause its not like “Johnny Cash” well welcome to the 21st century were talking about 40 years ago with music like that…. Your basically just trashing all music period if thats the only music you can appreciate.
