Bike Racks Now on City Buses
As of April 2002 city buses now have bike racks on select routes, with more on the way. This opens up more opportunities for biking different and more distance places, especially for commuters or people going to/from the fringes of the city.
The routes connect the cool stuff in Downtown and Midtown with the south, southeast, and northern reaches of the city - including a Missouri River crossing and connections to the Zoo and Country Club Plaza.
City/North/South Routes
- #142 North Oak - Downtown to the far Northland. Connects to Boardwalk Square via North Oak Trafficway and North Oak Trafficway. This is the only route currently crossing the Missouri River.
- #47 Roanoke - Major east/west route. Connects Blue Ridge (Truman Sports Complex), Swope Parkway (Zoo), Plaza, KU Medical Center, Wesport, Westside, and Downtown.
- #51 Ward Parkway - Downtown to Plaza to Southtown.
- #55 Rockhill - Major north/south/southeast route. Downtown to Plaza, UMKC, Bannister, and Longview.
- #108 Indiana - Downtown to 18th & Vine and the East Side.
- #163 63rd Street - East/west route on the south side. Connects Brookside, the Zoo, and Blue Ridge Cutoff.
Info/maps/schedules at the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority.
Southwest Suburban Routes
All Johnson County routes have bike racks. They mainly cater to commuters traveleing from the southwest suburbs to Downtown and the Plaza during rush hour, as well as reverse commuters.
